Miguel Uribe-
Miguel Uribe Turbay, a Colombian senator and a potential presidential candidate, was shot on
June 7, 2025, during an election rally in the Fontibón area of Bogotá. He was seriously injured
and is currently hospitalized. His wife has confirmed that he is “fighting for his life.”
The attacker has been arrested, and the government has launched a full investigation to identify
those who ordered the attack.
Miguel Uribe Turbay is 39 years old and a member of the right-wing Democratic Center party,
which was founded by former president Álvaro Uribe. He plans to run for president in the 2026
elections.
His mother, Diana Turbay, was a journalist who was kidnapped by Pablo Escobar’s cartel in 1990
and died during a failed rescue attempt.
This attack has reignited concerns about political violence in Colombia. President Gustavo Petro
condemned the attack strongly and has ordered a thorough investigation.
