Bella Ramsey Supports Keeping “Best Actress” Awards

Bella Ramsey
Bella Ramsey, the star of The Last of Us, supports keeping award categories like “Best Actress” and “Best Actor” even though they are non-binary (they don’t identify as only male or female).

What Did Bella Say?

Bella said in a podcast that it’s a hard topic, but having separate awards for men and women is still important. It helps women get the recognition they deserve.

They also said:

“I feel a bit weird when people call me ‘actress,’ but I don’t take it personally.”

Even though they were unsure, Bella still accepted a nomination for “Best Actress” at the Emmys.

Why Does This Matter?

Some award shows have started using gender-neutral categories (just “Best Performance” instead of separate male/female awards). But this can lead to fewer women being nominated or winning.

Final Thoughts

Bella thinks we should still have male and female categories to support women. At the same time, we should also find better ways to include non-binary people in awards.
